Cristiano Ronaldo will reportedly face an investigation after making an obscene gesture on the field of play at the end of the last match in the Saudi Pro League. On Sunday, the 39-year-old’s Al-Nassr faced Al-Shabab, who have a squad that includes former Atletico Madrid midfielder Yannick Carrasco and ex-Barcelona star Ivan Rakitic.
Ronaldo opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 21st minute, but his side were leveled by Carrasco late in the first half. Talisca restored the visitors’ lead after the restart, while the Brazilian was on hand again to secure a late win for Al Nassr after Carlos equalized for the hosts.
With the three points secured by the 3-2 victory, Ronaldo congratulated his teammates with the triple whistle. However, the Portuguese star appeared to be irritated by opposition fans who chanted the name of his former El Classico rival Lionel Messi.
In response, Ronaldo put his hand to his ear, before making an embarrassing gesture. He passed his hands in front of the gentile body in response to those who challenged him through… Messi. According to Saudi newspaper Asharq al-Awsat, the National Football Federation (SAFF) has opened an investigation into the incident.
In his second season in Saudi Arabia, the Portuguese star has maintained his “prolific” record in front of opposing goals. He is currently at the top of the list of scorers in the Saudi championship. Sunday’s penalty took his tally for the season to 22 in 20 games.
