Matthaus “attacks” FIFA: Messi didn’t deserve it, Haaland did
Messi’s triumph for the best player of FIFA 2023 has aroused a lot of controversy. A very controversial assessment given that the time frame referred to for the vote started from December 19, 2022, thus excluding the World Cup in Qatar where he had seen the Argentinian protagonist .
Lothar Matthaus, German football legend and winner of the FIFA World Player award in 1991, spoke to Sky Deutschland:

Messi ended up equal in points with Haaland in the vote, but the award went to the Argentine since FIFA in this case then uses the evaluation of the captains of the national teams, which were more in favor of the Argentine.
