The places of Real Madrid and Barcelona in the Champions League are in danger because of the scandal of Luis Rubiales. The Spanish FA has asked European governing body UEFA to consider banning clubs over the Spanish government’s interference in the ongoing World Cup ‘Kiss-Gate’ saga.
The request was made by the right wing of Rubiales, Andreu Camps, who has “opened a war” against their government, as the latter have demanded the resignation of Rubiales. Camps defended the president, arguing that with these calls the government is interfering in the Federation and this is strictly forbidden by UEFA and FIFA. And this threat does not only endanger Real Madrid or Barcelona, but also Atletico Madrid and Real Sociedad), the Europa League (Villarreal and Real Betis) and the Europa Conference League (Osasuna).
Meanwhile, as Luis Rubiales refuses to resign, the local media write that the fact that UEFA has not yet spoken about this scandal is because their president Alexander Ceferin is very close friends with the head of the Spanish Federation. Consequently, it is easy to understand that UEFA has no plans to take action against the Spanish teams, at least not at the moment.
