A week after the tragic event where an AEK fan was killed in Athens, the head of UEFA, Aleksandër Ceferin, visited Greece, while he met with Prime Minister Kyriakos Micotakis. The main topic of discussion was violence in football, specifically the murder of the 29-year-old, who was stabbed by the ultras of Dinamo Zagreb.

UEFA’s number one has condemned the case, while calling these fans crazy.

“This is football cancer. Don’t call them football fans. They are not fans. They just use football for their crazy ideas.”The prime minister of the Hellenic state has threatened to exclude Greek teams from European football competitions, which according to him are unsafe.

“I sincerely hope that it will not be necessary for the government to activate the final penalty at our disposal, which is the temporary exclusion of Greek teams from European football competitions. I am sure that we will not have to reach this point and I believe that everyone has understood how serious the situation is, but also how determined this government is to face this evil at its roots”.

Croatian President Zoran Milanovic accused Greek authorities of treating the arrested fans as “prisoners of war”, while a Greek official described his comments as unhelpful.

The tragic event was recorded on August 8, a few hours before the match of the third round of the Champions League between Aek and Dinamo Zagreb. The 29-year-old AEK fan was stabbed by Croatian ultras, and died in the hospital. More than 100 people, mostly Croatian nationals, have been arrested on charges of murder as part of a criminal group.
