Venus Williams has won against the Italian Camila Giorgi, in the Birmingham tournament, the second in which she participates this year.
Ten years ago it wouldn’t have been news, but in 2023 something like this is incredible, if you consider that the American has already turned 43 years old, while her Italian opponent was 12 years younger and is ranked among the 50 best tennis players good of the world.
In a match that lasted over 3 hours, Williams won 7-6, 4-6 and 7-6.
The 43-year-old continues to play tennis for fun and not regularly. Last week he was in the Dutch tournament, now in the British one, but before them, the last tournament he participated in was 6 months ago.
Venus Williams is ranked 697th in the world, while she had not won against a tennis player ranked in the top 50 since 2019.
