Unusual lights were seen in the sky of Morocco minutes before the earthquake that claimed 2100 lives.

A magnitude 6.8 earthquake struck Marrakesh and surrounding towns and villages on Friday night, flattening a significant number of buildings.

According to the Jerusalem Post, videos that were filmed by security cameras in the apartments, show how strange lights appear in the sky, 3 minutes before the earthquake was felt.

The cause of this phenomenon is not known, although it is not the first time it has been observed before a powerful earthquake.

Similar videos appeared before the devastating earthquakes in Turkey earlier this year, which killed more than 45,000 people.

One theory for these “earthquake lights” is said to reflect tectonic stress, seismic activity in the area or even volcanic eruptions.
