It’s been hours since a single IT update from an American SECURITY AND antivirus company caused global technological havoc.
You’ve probably never heard of anti-virus firm Crowdstrike before, but something the company did with its Falcon virus scanner had a very negative effect on millions of computers running Windows software.Computer “blue screens” were reported worldwide.
Microsoft was quick to say it was a “third-party issue” — in other words, not the company’s fault. Apple and Linux users remain unaffected.
On the other hand, Microsoft has come out with an advice for those whose computers may have been affected.
Microsoft has suggested on its website to perform a restart.
“Have you tried turning it off and on again?”
This is what Microsoft says has worked for some PC users.”Several reboots may be required (up to 15 have been reported), but the general feedback is that rebooting is an effective troubleshooting step at this stage,” the company said.
