The Golden Globes Awards, the first ceremony of the Hollywood awards season, crowned Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” and Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos’ “Poor Things” as the best films. Oppenheimer won five awards including the top prize, as best dramatic film, while the best director award went to Nolan.

A disappointment for “Barbie” by Greta Gerwig, after the best comedy was chosen “Poor Things”. “Barbie” won two awards in its 9 nominations, blockbuster and the award for the best song from Billie Eilish. The top-grossing award comes after “Barbie” grossed $1.4 billion worldwide.

Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jr. were both praised for their acting performances. Succession scored more wins in the TV categories after its fourth and final award-winning season, while the cast was also awarded four statues.

The award for best comedy went to The Bear and best miniseries was Netflix’s The Beef. Italy was disappointed by the failure to win the prize for Matteo Garrone’s Io Capitano, beaten by French film Anatomy of a Fall, which also won the award for best screenplay.

Among the actors who were awarded: Robert Downey Jr. and Cillian Murphy for Oppenheimer, Emma Stone for Yorgos Lanthimos’ film, Paul Giamatti for Alexander Payne’s comedy, Lily Gladstone for Martin Scorsese’s film “Killers of the Flower Moon”.

The ceremony hosted by Filipino comedian Joy Koy left no trace. His monologue didn’t make people laugh, and overall the show didn’t live up to its past glories (we still remember the opening sequence of Jimmy Kimmel’s reception in the year of La Land).

Behind-the-scenes images showed: Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez talking intimately during live broadcasts, Timothée Chalamet kissing his girlfriend Kylie Jenner, Scorsese and Spielberg together, Rachel Brosnahan and Quinta Brunson taking a photo together.

No reference to politics or the international situation, among the most emotional speeches was undoubtedly Lily Gladstone’s award to the Osage Nation.
