A high temperature above 37°C always indicates that there is something wrong in the human body. Recently, the COVID-19 virus has been added to the list of various problems that manifest with fever. Regardless of the problem or infection, there are some measures that each of us can take to ease the burden on the body.

In this article you will learn about the list of things that each of us should not do when we have a fever.

Prohibited Drinks:

Alcoholic, carbonated and caffeinated drinks should be completely avoided if you have a fever.

They cause dehydration and when we have a fever the body only needs water.

Men and boys should drink up to 3 liters of water a day, while women and girls should drink more than 2 liters a day.

Thick clothes:

During fever and high temperature, you should not overdo it with clothing and blankets.

The organism does not need another source of heat because the temperature will worsen.

Drugs:

Acetaminophen drugs (Paracetamol, Panadol, Tylenol, etc.) are generally effective in treating fever.

However, this does not mean that you should increase the doses of the medicine because you can cause serious damage to the liver.

Adults should not take more than 1,000 mg of paracetamol at one time while the daily limit is 2,000 mg.

For children, the dose should be lower and always in consultation with the pediatrician.

Children and minors should not be given aspirin because it can be fatal.

Appetite:

High temperature accelerates the metabolism, which means that the body needs more calories from food.

If you don’t consume food under the pretense of losing your appetite, you will damage the immune system more.

Sleep:

The immune system spends a lot of energy fighting an infection during the day.

When a person is asleep, the body has all the right time to recover.

Lack of sleep increases the duration of infection or illness.

The recommended amount of sleep is 7 to 9 hours.

Cold water shower:

Cold water can lower the temperature but for a very short term and then fever appears.

The muscles and the body tremble as it tries to restore normal temperature.

Instead of cold water, experts advise bathing with warm, but not too hot, water.

Don’t panic:

The fact that you may have a fever during these times does not necessarily mean that you are infected with COVID-19.

The temperature appears as a result of a bacterial infection but also viruses.

Consult the doctor about the symptoms and do not panic.
