Police and residents in a Japanese coastal city have been left baffled by a large iron ball found on a local beach, with authorities saying they have no idea what it is.
The sphere, measuring about 1.5 meters in diameter, was found on Enshu Beach in the city of Hamamatsu on the country’s Pacific coast, local media said.Fears that it could be a bomb were dismissed after experts used X-ray technology to examine the interior of the object and found it to be empty.
Nor are there any indications that she was involved in espionage by North Korea or China.
Police began inspecting the ball, which is orange-brown with dark rust spots, after a local woman spotted it on the sand just meters from the shore while out for a walk earlier this week, Asahi TV reported .
