EntertainmentStranger Things is officially coming to London’s West End. Check out a teaser below for the play set a quarter of a century before the Netflix smash.
Deadline revealed last year that Stranger Things creators the Duffer Brothers were launching a shingle along with the Stephen Daldry-helmed stage play and a multitude of other projects and today’s news is confirmation, with Stranger Things: The First Shadow set to begin its run at the Phoenix Theatre later this year once Paul Mescal’s A Streetcar Named Desire turn comes to an end.
Stranger Things writer Kate Trefry is penning the play based on an original story by the Duffers and His Dark Materials scribe Jack Thorne.
The play also counts some of the industry’s finest among its director and producer lineup. Acclaimed screenwriter and playwright Daldry is directing with Justin Martin, and 21 Laps is producer alongside the prolific Sonia Friedman Productions and Netflix.
The First Shadow is set in Stranger Things’ home of Hawkins in 1959, around 25 years before the smash hit TV series. Young Jim Hopper’s car won’t start, Bob Newby’s sister won’t take his radio show seriously and Joyce Maldonado just wants to graduate and leave town. When new student Henry Creel arrives, his family finds that a fresh start isn’t so easy and the shadows of the past have a very long reach.
Daldry is understood to have spent a year working with masters of illusion to develop magic tricks and special effects for the play. He set up a series of workshops to help the creative team assess how the effects would look in the production.
“Collaborating with the brilliant Stephen Daldry has been nothing short of inspiring, and Kate Trefry has written a play that is at turns surprising, scary, and heartfelt,” said the Duffer Brothers. “You will meet endearing new characters, as well as very familiar ones, on a journey into the past that sets the groundwork for the future of Stranger Things.”

TechnologyYouTube has been accused of collecting data on children under 13 watching videos, in breach of a UK data privacy code designed to protect children.
Campaigner Duncan McCann has lodged a formal complaint with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO). He says the site is collecting data on what videos kids are watching, where they’re watching and what devices they’re watching on.
YouTube said it had invested in protecting families.
“We remain committed to continuing our engagement with the ICO on this priority work, and with other key stakeholders, including children, parents and child protection experts,” a spokesperson said.
The platform is owned by American tech giant Alphabet, which is also the parent company of Google.
The firm has always said its service was not intended for use by children under the age of 13 and offers a separate children’s app called YouTube Kids that requires parental approval.
His complaint is believed to be the first test of the ICO’s child code to be introduced
In 2020 it issued a children’s code, giving tech firms a year to implement it. Its conditions include providing a high level of privacy for children.
According to regulator Ofcom, 89% of UK children aged three to 17 used the platform in 2021.
McCann is acting in a personal capacity but works for campaign group the 5Rights Foundation, which has championed the code.
“My favorite reform that YouTube should do is actually when you log into YouTube, they don’t collect any unnecessary information and they don’t process any unnecessary information,” he said.
In 2019, YouTube was fined $170m (£139m) by a US regulator for breaching children’s privacy laws. This followed a similar allegation that it was collecting data on children under 13 without parental consent.
YouTube did not admit liability but paid the fine and also changed its business practices as a result, said Stephanie Hare, author of Technology is Not Neutral.

EntertainmentA recently released horror movie is so disturbing that people are leaving the theater to vomit.
The movie in question, The Outwaters, was released a little over three weeks ago and viewers are already massively moved by the sights and sounds of the movie.
It’s even been reported that the film switched to the Apple Watch’s heart rate monitors and caused anxiety attacks during its 1 hour and 40 minute running time.
According to the film’s synopsis, the film follows “a field trip in the Mojave Desert that turns creepy when a group of campers begin experiencing unexplained sounds, vibrations and unnatural animal behavior.
“Then one night everything changes, sending the four on a terrifying journey through terror.”
But viewers who managed to watch the film have definitely flocked to Twitter to share their experiences.
“The Outwaters is the first movie that’s given me nightmares since I was a kid,” one viewer bravely admitted, while another added that they’re still “chewing over” the film.
“Not sure if it worked for me,” they wrote.
Meanwhile, someone else wrote: “The sound made me so dizzy I had to leave the theater to throw up. This has never happened to me before.
“It’s more disturbing than scary if that makes any sense,” added another.

TechnologyAn application based on artificial intelligence (Apollo Infant Sight, AIS) has been developed and successfully tested will help doctors and parents diagnose vision disorders in young children even under 2 years of age, accurately distinguishing 16 different ophthalmic disorders only through the study of children’s vision.
Reported in Nature Medicine, the study is due to Chinese researchers at Sun Yat-sen University. Experts recorded videos of 3,652 Chinese children aged 48 months to develop the app.
Researchers have validated this system twice in a clinical setting and also at home. AIS captured images of children watching cartoon-like videos to identify vision problems.
He accurately distinguished 16 ophthalmic disorders in children by analyzing facial features, gaze behavior and eye movements during visual stimuli. Young children, especially newborns, are unable to undergo standard vision tests, making early detection of any damage difficult.
There is an urgent need for easy-to-use tools for detecting vision problems in young children. Researchers collected over 25,000,000 video frames of 3,652 children using AIS. Validation of the system took place in three phases, in five clinics and at home.
In the first two phases, children enrolled in the study underwent ophthalmic examinations by clinical staff and trained volunteers collected videos. In the third phase of the study, the experts recruited the parents of a group of children online to validate the use of the application at home.
The parents, although not experts, recorded the videos of the children with their smartphones following the instructions of the AIS app. All children underwent ophthalmological examinations in a clinic. The AIS has achieved high values of sensitivity and specificity both when used by ophthalmologists and when used by parents.
The application can help in timely referral of visually impaired children to pediatric ophthalmologists, who can start treatment in time.

PoliticsSerious moments of tension were recorded on Tuesday evening in Moldova, when supporters of the pro-Russian Sor party tried to enter the government headquarters in Chisinau.
Thousands of protesters had come to the main square of the capital and demanded the resignation of the government, the president, Maia Sandu, and early elections.
According to the Moldovan media, the tensions came from a part of the demonstrators who separated from the crowd and tried to enter the government headquarters, but encountered police resistance.
The demonstrators then turned to the town hall, while many of them were arrested.
Hungary’s airline, Wizz Air, will avoid the airport in the Moldovan capital, Chisinau, from March 14 for security reasons, the Civil Aviation Authority of Moldova has said.
This authority has said that it has been informed by the airline and that it regrets making such a decision.
The announcement also stated that the Republic of Moldova is doing everything to guarantee the safety of its airspace.
There are concerns that Russia’s war in Ukraine could spill over into neighboring Moldova.
Russian soldiers are stationed in the breakaway region of Transnistria.Last week, Russia claimed that Ukraine wanted to attack this small contingent of military troops.
With Chisinau no longer a destination for flights, Wizz Air intends to offer more flights from the Romanian city of Iasi, located near the border, several media reports said.
Wizz Air operates flights to several cities in central and southeastern Europe.
With all air traffic in Ukraine suspended due to the war, the airport in Chisinau is one of the closest destinations for Ukrainians.
The war in Ukraine started on February 24, 2022.
Russian President Vladimir Putin calls the war a “special military operation” to demilitarize Ukraine.
The West has responded to Russia, hitting the economy of this country with harsh sanctions.
As a result of the war, thousands of people have died and millions more have been displaced from their homes.

LifeStyleThe Rolling Stones and the Beatles are undoubtedly two of the most successful rock groups of all time, and there are many music critics who think that the successes of the two British groups have not only changed the course of modern music, but perhaps Western society itself.
By the 1960s, fans of the two iconic groups were clearly divided musically, and official meetings between the artists were few and far between.
But outside of commercial logic, the relationship between them has been very good, even the first success of the Rolling Stones began in 1964 thanks to the song “I wanna be your man”, by the group from Liverpool.
Decades later, Paul McCartney still mocks this fact, describing the group as a “cover band”.
But in fact, the Beatles and the Stones together have sold more than 800 million records, of which 600 million are actually the unattainable Beatles. But Rock’s “grandfathers” are still hungry.
The American weekly Variety released a sensational news a few days ago, as it claimed that the Rolling Stones have invited the remaining members of the Beatles to join them in a single album.
According to the media, some of the songs are ready, recorded with security measures in a Los Angeles studio, where Mc Cartney has collaborated with the bass, including in the historic project and Ringo Starr.
Magic Paul’s last album was Mc Cartney III in 2020, while the Rolling Stones haven’t released anything since 2005, when they released the album A Bigger Bang, which had a lukewarm response.
Fans are already waiting for the result of the historic album, and in the meantime, for a joke, they try to suggest the name of the group in “Rolling Beatles”, and similar.

LifeStyleWhen it comes to the mysteries of our universe and human life, the biggest mystery about which many are curious, yet ignorant, is death. Religions have called death the only truth and the afterlife as a gift or curse that we receive depending on our behavior on this planet.
But none of this has been proven, no one really knows what lies ahead. However, an American doctor and scientist, Robert Lanza, in his book, ‘Biocentrism’, says that death can actually be a door to an infinite number of universes.
He calls the phenomenon biocentrism, a kind of mechanism that results in all physical possibilities. Biocentrism also emphasizes the fact that it is not the universe that created humans, but in fact we are the ones who gave birth to the universe as we know it.
In a conversation with the Huffington Post, Lanza revealed that biocentrism shows that space and time are just tools our minds use to weave information together into a comprehensive experience, like a language for consciousness.
He strongly believes in the theory of many worlds and says that death does not exist in these scenarios as all these possibilities are happening at the same time and the only reason we feel ‘alive’ is because of the energy acting on our brain.
In a rather random example, he calls death like ending a good TV series. You can experience different stories, different characters and of course different endings from the vast library that the universe holds and at the end of it all, it’s still you.
According to him, it is only energy and according to the laws of physics, energy can neither be created nor destroyed, it simply moves from one state to another. When we die, there is a break in our linear connection of times and places. And surprisingly, he says, our linear concept of time means nothing about nature.

Technology What's HotCanadian privacy regulators have launched an investigation into TikTok over its collection of user data.
The video-sharing platform, owned by Chinese giant ByteDance, has come under scrutiny over concerns that it provides information to Beijing.
Canada’s move comes after European Commission staff were ordered to remove the application to “protect” the institution. The Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada said it had launched the investigation into TikTok along with provincial privacy regulators from Quebec, British Columbia and Alberta.
The investigation was launched “in the wake of now-settled class action lawsuits in the United States and Canada, as well as numerous media reports regarding TikTok’s collection, use and disclosure of personal information,” it said in a statement. The measure aims to determine whether the organization’s practices comply with Canadian privacy legislation.” They will examine whether the company is meeting its transparency obligations.

TechnologyA tech company in China has come up with a rather strange way to send a long-distance kiss to your lover.
If you love to kiss your partner, but are too far apart to touch lips, this phone attachment – which is equipped with warm, removable silicone “lips” – should be added to your cart immediately.
The kissing device – called Remote Kiss – is marketed and sold to long-distance lovers through China’s online shopping website Taobao.
The Global Times, China’s state-run newspaper, has reported that the invention has been patented by the Changzhou Professional Institute of Mechatronic Technology.
Jiang Zhongli, the main inventor of the design, said that he was in a long-distance relationship and this led to the invention of the Distance Kiss.
“At my university, I was in a long-distance relationship with my girlfriend, so we only had contact with each other over the phone. That’s where the inspiration for this device was born,” explained Zhongli.
The device comes with pressure sensors and actuators to mimic a real, smooth kiss by replicating the pressure, movement and temperature of actual human lips.
