EntertainmentThe 80th edition of the Venice Film Festival ended yesterday evening with the announcement of the winners:
– Silver Lion – Grand Jury Prize: “Aku wa sonzai shinai” (“Evil does not exist”) by Ryusuke Hamaguchi (Japan)
– Silver Lion for best director: Matteo Garrone for “Io capitano” (I am the captain)” (Italy)
– Award for the best actor: Peter Sarsgaard for his role in “Memory” by Michel Franco
– Best Screenplay Award: Guillermo Calderon and Pablo Larrain for “El Conde” by Pablo Larrain
– Special Jury Prize: “Zielona granica” (“The Green Border”) by Polish director Agnieszka Holland
The Venice Film Festival sent a message of solidarity with migrants during its awards ceremony, awarding three of its prizes to films focused on dramas related to the migration crisis.
The jury, chaired by American director Damien Chazelle (“La La Land”), awarded its special prize to “Green Border,” a shocking film by Polish director Agnieszka Holland about the fate of migrants thrown between Poland and Belarus in 2021.
“We dedicate this award to activists who help immigrants from Poland in Lampedusa, the small Italian island where many immigrants from Africa arrive risking their lives,” said the 74-year-old director as she received her award.
His film shows border guards, humanitarians and migrants caught in a diplomatic game that goes beyond them between Belarus and the European Union.
“Since 2014, when the refugee crisis began, about 66,000 people have died trying to come to Europe,” complained the director, one of the great voices of Polish cinema, nominated several times for an Oscar.
The award for directing went to Italian Matteo Garrone for “I, Captain,” which tells the perilous odyssey of two young Senegalese cousins across Africa and the Mediterranean to reach Italy.
Its young protagonist, Seydou Sarr, received the award as the best young actor.
Matteo Garrone, the director of “Gomorrah”, said on stage that he “sought to give voice to those who really lived this journey”.

TechnologyApple is set to unveil the iPhone 15 in a few days and it is widely expected to come with a major change.
The iPhone 15 is widely rumored to ditch Apple’s proprietary Lightning charger in favor of USB-C charging, marking a milestone for the company by adopting universal charging. The change could ultimately simplify the charging process across devices and brands.
The switch would come less than a year after the European Union voted to pass legislation requiring smartphones, tablets, digital cameras, portable speakers and other small devices to support USB-C charging by 2024. The first law of its kind aims to reduce the number of chargers and cables consumers have to deal with when buying a new device, and to allow users to mix and match devices and chargers even if they are made by different manufacturers .
This is arguably the biggest break in iPhone design in several years, but in reality, it’s not a dramatic move.
That’s because Apple ( AAPL ) previously switched its iPads and MacBooks to USB-C charging. However, the company has been resistant to change on the iPhone. Last year, Apple’s senior vice president of worldwide marketing, Greg Joswiak, publicly emphasized the value and prevalence of the Lightning charger, which is designed for faster device charging, but noted that “of course we’re going to have to we respect” the mandate of the EU.
We have no choice, as we do around the world, to comply with local laws, but we feel that the approach would have been better environmentally and better for our customers if they didn’t have a government have it perspective.

Politics TechnologyUS company Microsoft said on Thursday that it has identified a network of fake profiles on Chinese-controlled social networks in an attempt to influence US voters using artificial intelligence.
A spokesman for the Chinese embassy in Washington said that allegations that China, using AI, has created fake accounts on social networks are “filled with prejudice and malicious speculation” and that China is working to ensure that Artificial Intelligence is used safely.
In a new research report, Microsoft said the social network accounts were part of an information-gathering operation allegedly carried out by China. The campaign bears similarities to activity that the US Department of Justice has attributed to “an elite group within China’s Ministry of Public Security,” Microsoft said.
The US company’s experts did not say which social networking platforms were used, but pictures accompanying the report appeared to show posts from Facebook and Twitter, now known as X. The report highlights a social media environment that poses risks. to be misused as Americans prepare for the 2024 presidential election.
The US government has accused Russia of meddling in the 2016 election with a covert social media campaign and warned of subsequent efforts by China, Russia and Iran to influence voters.
The report provides limited examples of the latest activity and does not explain in detail how Microsoft experts attributed the releases to China.
A Microsoft spokesperson told the Reuters news agency that the company’s experts used a “multi-layered model to verify the connection” with China, which relies on “technical evidence and contextual evidence.” According to the report, the campaign began using AI around March 2023 to create political content in English and “impersonate American voters,” Microsoft said.
AI can create images, text and other media from scratch. The content of the new releases is much more appealing than the tacky visuals used in previous campaigns by Chinese state-run groups, which relied on digital drawings, photo sets that can be purchased online and other manual graphic designs, experts wrote. ‘Microsoft’.
The report cites an example of an AI-generated image, which Microsoft said came from a Chinese profile, showing the Statue of Liberty holding a rifle with the caption: ‘Everything is being thrown away. THE GODDESS OF VIOLENCE’.
A Microsoft spokesperson said the identified profiles had attempted to appear American by posting their location as being within the United States and posting American political slogans.

Sports USARussian tennis player Daniil Medvedev makes a shocking statement at the end of the US Open match against fellow countryman Rublev.
After the hard-fought victory, the former world number 1 has not spared criticism after playing in extreme temperatures of up to 39 degrees at the “Ashe Stadium” finding it very difficult. His warning is clear and without diplomatic language.
“A player will die while playing and you will see it live on television,” declared the Russian tennis player who had difficulty breathing, but even his warning did not serve to close the roof of the US Open’s main court.
He did this during the third set as he addressed the camera and the audience while in front of the media he added:
“The conditions were brutal. The only positive thing is that they were like that for both tennis players. At the end of the first set I wasn’t looking at the ball. I was looking at Rublev and I thought he might fall at any moment.”

Sports“Michael Schumacher is a hopeless case.” This is what his close friend Roger Benoit has said, who has spoken about the condition of the 7-time F1 champion, who suffered a serious skiing accident in 2013 and continues treatment at home, away from the public eye, for more than a decade.
After crashing and hitting his head on a rock, Schumacher spent 250 days in an induced coma in hospital before returning home. News about his condition is very rare and very few people are allowed to visit him.
In an interview for the Swiss newspaper “Blick”, the journalist Benoit said that there is no hope that we can see the German champion again one day.
“His son, Mick, said in a 2022 interview that he would give anything to speak to his father again. This sentence tells everything about the current state of Michael Schumacher, how he spent these 3500 days. It is a hopeless case”.

TechnologySix major technology companies will be subject to tougher rules in the European Union aimed at preventing them from abusing their dominant market positions as “gatekeepers” of the digital economy.
The European Commission said the measures apply to Microsoft, Amazon and Meta, including its services Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram as well as Alphabet, Apple and ByteDance, owners of the video app TikTok.
Companies are no longer allowed to give preferential treatment to their services in the rankings and can merge data from different sources only with the express consent of the user.
They have six months to implement the rules. Violations can result in heavy fines and, in exceptional cases, even dissolution.
“The most influential online businesses will now have to comply with our EU rules,” European Commissioner Thierry Breton wrote in X.
