TechnologyYour smartphone provides access to many web sites and accounts, but these can also carry risks.
This is because access can cause problems for the device and if it is not done securely, the user can fall prey to hackers or online spies.
Through several ways, the user can understand if his phone is being spied on.
Follow the tips below:
Unknown apps on your phone
If you see unknown applications on your phone, which have been installed without your knowledge, you may rightly think that you have fallen prey to online spying. This is because people with malicious internet intentions, when they get into the operating system, leave such traces that, through those applications, they can control your data, causing a lot of damage.
The device has been “rooted” or “jailbroken”
These two technical terms mean when the spy has penetrated deep into the phone’s operating system and made radical negative changes. According to this, your phone is spied on and is totally in the hands of hackers targeting your data. Therefore, refreshing data and changing passwords can protect your phone from this phenomenon.
The battery is draining fast
If your phone’s battery is draining quickly and for no reason, you may have fallen prey to online spies. This happens because spies access your data and install heavy apps that drain your battery and cause damage. So, to investigate this, check your battery level systematically.
If your device is overheating, beware that you are being spied on. Your operating system is burdened by the “movements” of the spies, and this can cause the phone to overheat. This is especially noticeable when the phone heats up even if you are not using it.
If you are constantly receiving strange messages from contacts you do not know, you may have fallen prey to online spies, or there may be signs that you are about to be attacked.
Technology experts recommend not to install dangerous and unnecessary applications, and at the same time not to contact unknown persons.

Breaking News Technology USATexas Republican Ted Cruz just tore into Mark Zuckerberg about why some users are directed toward potential child sexual material on Instagram.
His team puts up a slide deck of an Instagram prompt that warns users they may be about to see CSAM and asks if they would like to “see the results anyway”.
“Mr Zuckerberg, what the hell were you thinking?” Cruz yells into his microphone.
The Meta CEO is interrupted several times as he attempts to answer, eventually pleading “give me time” to reply.
Zuckerberg promises to “personally look into it” as Cruz continues to grill him, complaining that the company’s official response in several days will be a lawyerly one.
Zuckerberg tries to give nuanced answers – but lawmakers want ‘yes’ or ‘no’
Things got quite awkward just now in the hearing room.
Mark Zuckerberg is showing increasing frustration that he is not being allowed to provide answers with nuance as lawmakers push for quick yes or no answers.
Missouri Republican Senator Josh Hawley peppered Zuckerberg with questions about whether he is responsible for harming children and whether he should apologise.
He then essentially forced Zuckerberg to stand up, turn around and apologise to family members in the crowd.
Several parents held up placards of their children as he turned to face them.
Crowd laughs when Zuckerberg says sexually explicit content is not allowed
A short interaction between Senator Mike Lee and Mark Zuckerberg just caused some members of the crowd to burst into laughter.
Zuckerberg said: “My understanding is we don’t allow sexually explicit content for anyone.”
“How is that going?” Lee responds, causing claps and laughs from the audience.
Zuckerberg goes on to say about 99% of content removed is identified by AI and he believes Meta is an industry leader in this area.
Zuckerberg wants Apple and Google to play bigger role in child safety
Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg has come to congress today with a clear vision – that Apple and Google could play a bigger role in keeping children off platforms or ensuring they have age appropriate experiences on social apps.
Zuckerberg says Apple and Google’s app stores could be the “easiest” and “right” place to check the age of child users or let parents verify themselves, rather than have to upload ID to many different apps.
He adds that if the two giants’ app stores already require parental consent when children make payments in apps, “it should be pretty trivial to pass a law that requires them to make it so that parents have control any time a child downloads an app and offers consent of that”.
Senator Amy Klobuchar responds that such processes aren’t simple enough for parents – and the court rooms and halls of Congress offer them a smoother path for protecting their kids online.
Senator says Facebook founder has ‘blood on his hands’
Each of the tech bosses is reading a prepared statement about their company. Mark Zuckerberg is speaking currently.
So let’s revisit a moment from earlier, when Republican Senator Lindsey Graham told the hearing that social media companies are “destroying lives” and “threatening democracy itself”.
Graham tells the story of a young man who was extorted on Instagram and ended up taking his own life.
He then addresses Mark Zuckerberg, whose company Meta owns Instagram.
Mr Zuckerburg, you and the companies before us – I know you don’t mean it to be so, but you have blood on your hands. You have a product that’s killing people” from Lindsey Graham Republican Senator

Many of the spectators in the audience cheer and clap in response.

One of the biggest concerns platform bosses will have to answer questions about today is Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) – sexually explicit content depicting a child.
The term also applies to self-generated imagery and material created using artificial intelligence.
Social media platforms typically use a combination of automated and human processes to review content flagged as potentially violating its policies, including CSAM.
Industry-developed tools such as Microsoft’s PhotoDNA tool, YouTube’s Child Sexual Abuse Imagery Match (CSAI) tool and Google’s Content Safety API help platforms identify and report violating content to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC).
Many of these use image or hash matching to detect content which might be CSAM.
Hash matching sees a piece of content given a unique digital signature, or ‘hash’, so it can be checked against signatures belonging to existing content, such material in databases of known child abuse material, to find copies or matches.
The NCMEC’s Take It Down portal helps people in the US remove explicit imagery of themselves taken when under the age of 18 by using hash matching to identify and remove copies of the content if found on other platforms.

EntertainmentThe American series “Expats”, in which Nicole Kidman plays the main role, was filmed in Hong Kong, but the citizens of that Chinese city cannot watch it, AP writes.
The first two episodes of the six-episode American drama “Expats” about female expats were released on Amazon Prime on January 26, however, when viewers in Hong Kong tried to watch it, a message appeared on the screen saying “the video is currently not available for viewing in your location,” reports the US agency.
Amazon did not comment on the allegations.
In the first episode of the series “Expats”, a short scene was shown where people in a protest shout “We want a real general election” in Cantonese, but also hold umbrellas, a reference to the Umbrella Movement of 2014 when protesters demanded the right to vote the executive director of the city.

Breaking News LifeStyle TechnologyMysterious flashes of light have been reported in the night sky in several Russian cities for which no one knows what causes them.
Residents in Podolsk, near Moscow, witnessed the mysterious coloring of the evening sky that had nothing to do with attacks or explosions from the Ukrainian war.
People were talking about a “sharp green” or a “green to yellow” coloring, as the residents of Chelyabinsk in the south of the country reported the other day.
The lights were also reported by the local mayor Nikolai Deineko and the local emergency ministry said it is investigating the event, but it is still considered a mystery.
Local network Tsargrad wrote about the unusual reports in Podolsk: “Residents noticed unusual bursts of green lights early in the morning in Podolsk near Moscow.”
“Judging by their reactions, the phenomenon was alarming as the residents had never seen anything like this.”
Other reports said that in Chelyabinsk and Podolsk there are secret plants of the Russian army, raising hypotheses of military experiments, which are regularly rejected by the authorities.
Mayor Deineko posted a video of the strange lights with the comments: “Unusual lights were observed in the direction of Chelyabinsk around 6:10 pm, until 6:15.
“I saw several explosions of light in the direction of the villages of Shagol and Krasnoe Pole. It was near the skating rink, it flashed like lightning,” said one of the witnesses.
The two cities are more than 1,000 miles apart and the mystery of the origin of the lights continues to puzzle residents, writes the British network TheSun.
This caused residents to give different ideas: “It’s some kind of new American weapon,” said Podolsk resident Aleksey, while others talked about aliens or secret military weapons.

TechnologyInstagram is testing a new feature called Flipside. This feature allows users to create a private section of their profile to share personal content exclusively with selected friends.
Flipside is a feature similar in concept to Finsta, where users maintain a separate, more private part of their profile from their main public profile. The new feature allows users to easily create a private space, which will be available only to their close or selected friends.
For example, users will be able to have a different profile picture, name and bio for the “private side” and will be able to control who sees their content on Flipside. Also, there is an option to “start over” and “delete all users”.
Accessing someone’s Flipside requires tapping a button or swiping down to the main profile. This creates a separate space where users can share content more selectively.
In November 2023, Instagram expanded its Close Friends feature, allowing users to share private stories on the main feed. Flipside seems to be taking this concept further.
The new feature is still in the testing phase, so Instagram has not yet confirmed an official launch date.

TechnologyTech billionaire Elon Musk has announced that his company Neuralink has successfully implanted one of its wireless brain chips in a human for the first time.
“Initial results revealed promising neuron spikes or nerve impulses and the patient is recovering,” he said.
The company’s goal is to connect the human brain with computers to help treat complex neurological conditions.
A number of rival companies have already implanted similar devices. Musk’s company was given permission to test the chip on humans by the FDA in May, a milestone after earlier efforts to win approval.
That gave the green light to start the six-year study during which a robot is being used to surgically place 64 flexible threads, thinner than a hair, in a part of the brain that controls “the intention of movement,” according to Neuralink.
The company says these threads allow its experimental implant, powered by a battery that can be charged wirelessly, to record and transmit brain signals wirelessly to an app that decodes how the person intends to move.
Posting on X, the social media platform he owns, Musk said Neuralink’s first product would be called Telepathy.
“Telepathy would allow you to control your phone or computer, and through them almost any device, just by thinking. The first users will be those who have lost the use of their limbs”, he emphasized.
While Musk’s involvement raises Neuralink’s profile, it faces rivals, some of whom have a history dating back two decades.Existing devices have also generated results. In two separate recent scientific studies in the US, implants were used to monitor brain activity when a person tried to speak, which could then be decoded to help them communicate.

Politics TechnologyMore than 50,000 fake profiles on the X platform, more than 1 million tweets in German: Russia seems to have tried to increase German citizens’ dissatisfaction with the government with a massive campaign.
The German Foreign Ministry has discovered a large Russian disinformation campaign on the Internet, on the platform X, formerly Twitter. The purpose of the campaign was to increase dissatisfaction with the work of the government in Berlin and to undermine support for Ukraine, reports “Spiegel”.
On behalf of the German Foreign Ministry, experts have analyzed the short message service X with a special software and found a large network of fake user profiles that distributed content in the German language.
In the time span from December 20 to January 20, experts have identified more than 50,000 fake accounts on the X platform, which have published more than 1 million tweets in the German language.
The focus is on support for Ukraine:
In the messages, accusations are often raised that the German government ignores its people in order to support Ukraine, “Spiegel” reported, referring to reliable sources from the analysis. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been following the debates on social media on foreign policy topics for a long time through IT analysts. The goal is to detect influence from outside. “Disinformation has turned into a global threatening factor”, said a spokesperson of the Foreign Ministry for “Spiegel”. “It is being used on purpose by those who do not share our values to destabilize societies as a whole, not just Western democracies, but as a whole.

LifeStyle Technology USASocial media platform X has blocked searches for Taylor Swift after explicit AI-generated images of the singer began circulating on the site.
In a statement , X’s head of business operations Joe Benarroch said it was a “temporary action” to prioritise safety.
When searching for Swift on the site, a message appears that says: “Something went wrong. Try reloading.”
Fake graphic images of the singer appeared on the site earlier this week.
Some went viral and were viewed millions of times, prompting alarm from US officials and fans of the singer.
Posts and accounts sharing the fake images were flagged by her fans, who populated the platform with real images and videos of her, using the words “protect Taylor Swift”.
The photos prompted X, formerly Twitter, to release a statement on Friday, saying that posting non-consensual nudity on the platform is “strictly prohibited”.
“We have a zero-tolerance policy towards such content,” the statement said. “Our teams are actively removing all identified images and taking appropriate actions against the accounts responsible for posting them.”
It is unclear when X began blocking searches for Swift on the site, or whether the site has blocked searches for other public figures or terms in the past.
Mr Benarroch said the action is done “with an abundance of caution as we prioritise safety on this issue”.
The issue caught the attention of the White House, who on Friday called the spread of the AI-generated photos “alarming”.
“We know that lax enforcement disproportionately impacts women and they also impact girls, sadly, who are the overwhelming targets,” said White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre during a briefing.
She added that there should be legislation to tackle the misuse of AI technology on social media, and that platforms should also take their own steps to ban such content on their sites.
“We believe they have an important role to play in enforcing their own rules to prevent the spread of misinformation and non-consensual, intimate imagery of real people,” Ms Jean-Pierre said.
US politicians have also called for new laws to criminalise the creation of deepfake images.
Deepfakes use artificial intelligence to make a video of someone by manipulating their face or body. A study in 2023 found that there has been a 550% rise in the creation of doctored images since 2019, fuelled by the emergence of AI.
There are currently no federal laws against the sharing or creation of deepfake images, though there have been moves at state level to tackle the issue.
In the UK, the sharing of deepfake pornography became illegal as part of its Online Safety Act in 2023.

This is the first time in 17 years that a tennis player who is not Federer, Nadal or Djokovic won the Melbourne tournament. A fully deserved success for Sinner, who in the semi-final beat exactly the number 1 in the world.

Culture LifeStyle TrendingFreud was wrong. There is a much simpler, much easier way to succeed in life: learn the art of flattery.
Have you ever wondered why there are so many incompetent people holding leadership roles today?
Of course, nepotism plays an important role, I don’t want to deny it, but there is another explanation, much more subtle and banal: knowing how to please this or that person, opens all doors.
Do you know where the most perfect portrait of such a man is found? In the novel “War and Peace”. Maybe if you’ve read it, you won’t remember Boris.
He is a character who goes unnoticed, he has no great talent, he is not brave, he does not shine with intelligence and imagination, passion or kindness, but he knows how to do one thing and he knows how to do it very well: He manages to get into the good graces of influential people.
This is how he builds his wealth. Well, it really stuck with me because there are so many Borises in history.
They are always found clinging to the edge of a powerful person, always ready to lift him up with the eternal art of servility. In exchange for favors, of course.
But then is it worth being like Boris?
I want to answer you with the words of Diogenes, the Greek philosopher whom many have called the mad Socrates of antiquity.
Here one day Diogenes was having his dinner, a simple supper of bread and lentils, when Aristippus of Cyrene came to visit him.
This Aristippus was a very rich man who lived in luxury, thanks to the praises he used to praise princes and kings.
Aristippus said to Diogenes:
“I see you are eating a very poor dinner. I want to give you a piece of advice. If you would learn to be humble to the king, you would not be forced to eat lentils.”
Diogenes turned to his friend and answered:
“I want to give you one more piece of advice: learn to love lentils. If you had learned to live by eating lentils, you would not now be forced to flatter the king and live like a slave trying to satisfy your every need.”
