No surprises in the Republican primaries in the US state of Iowa. Donald Trump has achieved a landslide victory over his rivals, making his path to the official candidacy for the White House almost certain.
An “avalanche” of success, which by exceeding 50% of the consensus, sends a direct and disturbing message to President Joe Biden in view of the November 5th vote. In the first message after the result, Trump said he felt honored and invigorated by the victory and brought back old election promises: “We will put America first. We will make America great, again and again. You are ashamed of what is happening. The whole world is laughing at us and you want our country back to the way it was. You love America. You want us to be great again.”
He also promised to close the borders to prevent, as he said, terrorists from entering the United States: “We will do training, a lot of training. We will close the border, as we currently face an invasion. We are being invaded by millions and millions of people who are entering our country. This is something very bad, even terrible. They are coming to us prisoners and get out of the madness. Also, many terrorists are entering America”.
Ron DeSantis is projected as his main rival within the party, with 21% of the vote, while Nikki Haley came in third, with 19% of preferences. The victory in the Republican primary election in Iowa makes Donald Trump “the favorite candidate”, said President Joe Biden, commenting on the results.
“Donald Trump is officially the Republican candidate for the 2024 presidential election, and now we have to work even harder,” says an email sent to voters in the last few hours. The Biden campaign also warned of “low-key attacks and endless lies” that would follow Trump’s nomination.
