Cocaine has been found in the White House and this has caused alarm among the country’s intelligence agencies.
As the Washington Post reports, the Secret Service is investigating a suspicious substance that led to a brief evacuation when it was spotted inside the White House on Sunday night.
The substance, which was a white powder, tested positive for cocaine, according to preliminary test results. WP quotes an officer with knowledge of the investigation.
Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said the substance is undergoing further testing to determine what it is.
At the same time, authorities are investigating how the substance got into the White House.
The discovery of the substance has put the services on increased security alert, while there was also an emergency evacuation of the area. President Biden, according to reports, was not in the White House when the operation took place.
There are no details on exactly where the substance was found and how it was packaged. Guglielmi stated only that he was found by members of the Secret Service in uniform, who were conducting routine patrols of the building.
