An updated version of the humanoid robot was introduced, which can now also hold conversations.
The US company behind the new Figure 02 Artificial Intelligence (AI) robot is developing it to help tackle labor shortages in menial tasks in factories and warehouses.
The Figure AI company boasts that the second-generation Figure robot is “the highest performing humanoid on the market”.
It is said to be the result of a complete hardware and software redesign in just 10 months, following its predecessor, the Figure 01 robot.
The new version of the robot, 167 cm tall, is capable of speaking to humans through built-in microphones and speakers connected to custom AI models trained in partnership with OpenAI.
There’s also a built-in visual language model, which is said to enable “rapid common-sense visual reasoning” from the robot’s cameras.
The previous model’s battery lasted five hours on a full charge, but now there’s a new custom 2.25 KWh battery that delivers 50 percent or more power.
Figure 02 perceives and understands the physical world through its visual AI system powered by six integrated RGB cameras.
His “human” ones are equipped with 16 degrees of range and human-like power, which allows him to perform a wide range of tasks similar to what humans do.
The robot’s “brain” now performs three times more AI calculations and interactions compared to the previous generation.
This, according to the manufacturer, allows real-time artificial intelligence tasks to be performed completely autonomously.
