TikTok is a highly influential social media platform and has for some time now proven extremely popular with those interested in taking weight loss pills. But it seems the company has decided to crack down on promotional videos and has issued new rules that will block images promoting the body and the harmful messages associated with it. Predictably, users who made money promoting weight loss drugs and tactics saw their affiliates hit by the new rules, either moved to other platforms, or began to change the way they talk about these drugs.
Of course, following prescription drug recommendations and directions on TikTok is a problematic tactic in itself. From a legal point of view, promoting these drugs on a social media platform falls into a “dark” regulatory area. At least in America, many lawmakers have expressed concern that influencers are not giving consumers the full picture of the dangers of these injectable drugs.
On the other hand, equally controversial is the practice of many influencers who use their weight loss experiences to promote drugs manufactured by pharmacies and prescribed by telehealth companies.
