Video-sharing app TikTok will begin automatically tagging content created using artificial intelligence when uploaded by several other platforms as part of efforts to increase transparency and literacy around artificial intelligence.
The social media giant already requires content created using TikTok’s own AI effects to be tagged, but is now expanding that system to include material uploaded from other platforms as it expands its tools to combat misinformation.
TikTok’s website said the “expanded program will see it partner with the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA) and implement their Content Credentials technology, which attaches a so-called “digital food label” to content. ”, telling people it was created by artificial intelligence.
It means that TikTok is the first social media platform to start using the tool.
The announcement follows concerns from industry experts and politicians about the potential impact of AI-generated tools used to create fraudulent content influencing the large number of elections to be held around the world in 2024.
TikTok said this new system will start rolling out on Thursday and is expected to roll out to all users globally in the coming weeks.
In the coming months, the social media company said it will begin attaching content credentials to TikTok-generated content as well.
