Airbnb, the international hotel and accommodation booking company, has changed its policies, effective from June 6, however it affects all customers who booked earlier, regardless of the date.
Through an announcement, Airbnb has informed customers that the new regime is about extraordinary events, which have been renamed as “force majeure” incidents.
According to the new policy, certain emergencies may be grounds for not providing the agreed services without (or with reduced compensation) to a traveler-user of the platform.
Force majeure includes natural disasters (fire, storms, floods), governmental or societal actions (war, invasion, civil unrest, labor strikes), and infrastructure failures (transportation, energy).
We are updating the Special Circumstances Policy and changing its name to make it easier to understand. The revised Force Majeure policy will apply to all travel and experiences occurring from June 6, 2024 onwards, regardless of the date the booking was made.
What is changing in politics?
Foreseeable weather at the booking location expressly qualifies for the coverage provided if it results in another covered event, such as the imposition of travel restrictions by a government authority or a large-scale disruption to the operation of public services.
The policy will only apply to events that occur at the booking location. Events that affect a guest’s ability to travel to the location of the reservation are no longer covered.
If you continue to use the Airbnb platform after June 6, 2024, you agree to the updated Force Majeure policy. Thank you for being part of our community.
