Children under 14 will be banned from using social media in Florida starting next year.
Signed into law by Gov. Ron DeSantis, the legislation requires social media companies to delete the accounts of people under 14.
Children aged 14 and 15 will also need parental consent before signing up to platforms such as Instagram and Snapchat.
Companies that fail to delete accounts risk being sued on behalf of children, up to $10,000 (Ā£7,908) ā and can also be fined up to $50,000 (Ā£39,538) for breaking the law.
It is set to take effect in Florida from January next year, but challenges are expected from companies who claim it violates the US constitution.
