As Belarusians prepare to go to the polls, 2,000 public screens across the country were hacked and broadcast a speech by the exiled opposition leader for two hours.

The hack was carried out by an exiled group of former law enforcement officers. Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s speech called on people to boycott the elections and support Ukraine.

Ms Tsikhanouskaya is in exile in Lithuania after challenging Alexander Lukashenko in the 2020 presidential election. Today’s vote will cement the authoritarian leader’s rule. Lukashenko announced today that he will run in next year’s presidential elections.

Great success! Today, our friends from @osbbelpol have hacked 2000 screens in public spaces all over Belarus and played the address of Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, calling to support Ukraine, ignore sham elections & continue resistance.

The video was played continuously for 2 hours pic.twitter.com/s0LR7Rsney— Franak Viačorka (@franakviacorka) February 24, 2024
