Low-cost airlines have tried in every way to reduce hand luggage in recent months. Thus, it is not uncommon for them to ask passengers to hand over their luggage, even if it is brought into the cabin. The only downside is that your suitcase travels at the back of the plane and you’re not entirely sure you’ll find it when you get to your destination.

After all, it is quite possible for a suitcase to arrive late – even a few days late – or to be lost indefinitely. Therefore, a very good advice is that the checked baggage should never contain items that we need immediately, such as wallets (with documents or money) or house keys.

According to a recent survey by , a company specializing in the management of air passenger complaints, Madrid’s Adolfo Suarez-Barajas airport is the airport that receives the most complaints about lost luggage in Europe.

In 2023, 26.5% of all complaints were registered there. The second airport with the highest number of lost luggage complaints last year is also in Spain and is Barcelona’s El Prat, where 13.2% of complaints handled by Reclamio were recorded.

In third place is Lisbon’s Humerto Delgado airport with 5.8% of complaints, followed by Paris’s Orly Airport with 2.7% of complaints. Finally, the top five is rounded off by Palma de Mallorca airport, with 2.4% of lost luggage complaints registered there.
