Microsoft has plans to stop supporting the Windows 10 operating system, but this has brought a great concern, since about 240 million computers in the world are destined to be thrown into the “garbage”.
This also risks a large flow of electronic waste, risking the trashing of about 480 million kilograms of electronic equipment, which is roughly the weight of 320,000 cars, according to Canalis Search.
Although many of these computers may be operational for years after support for Windows 10 ends, Canalis warned that demand for devices without security updates may be low.
Microsoft has revealed the plan to provide security updates for Windows 10 devices until October 2028. However, the price for this service has not yet been made known.
Meanwhile, Canalis suggests that “migrating” to newer computers may be more cost-effective.
The changes come in the context of plans to end support for Windows 10, while the next Windows operating system is expected to bring advanced Artificial Intelligence technology.
