The scenarios for the new year are ominous. According to the Doomsday Clock, the year 2024 will mark the end of humanity, writes the British newspaper “Mirror”.
The clock with its hands hovering near midnight (the “Doomsday Clock”) is a symbolic device designed to warn the world of how close doom is.
In 2024, after a year marked by war, political chaos and natural disasters, the situation will be so dramatic that it will lead to the extinction of the human species, but also of the animal kingdom.
“When the clock strikes midnight, there will either be a nuclear war or a catastrophic climate change that will wipe out the inhabitants of the planet,” commented the relevant publication.
The ‘Doomsday’ clock dates back to the early days of the Cold War. The magazine’s articles are mainly devoted to the dangers of nuclear weapons. The symbolic device was created in part by scientists and engineers who assisted in the famous Manhattan Project (1947).
