The good friendship they show in public does not mean that Kim Jong Un and Vladimir Putin necessarily trust each other.
At least that’s what a viral video shows, which shows the North Korean leader’s security agents scrutinizing the chair he will sit in during his meeting with the Kremlin leader.
Kim’s security has been seen carrying out rigorous checks on his chair ahead of their much-anticipated summit at the Vostochny Cosmodrome.
The video initially shows a man in white gloves and a dark suit wiping the black chair with a white cloth before the two leaders sit down for the meeting, which lasted more than four hours at Russia’s space center in eastern Russia. Far away.
The agent thoroughly cleans the chair, its back, and the armrests, assisted by two other North Korean officials, who stand behind him with more cleaning equipment if needed.
After making sure the chair was clear of any possible eavesdropping devices or chemical release, a second official – dressed identically to the first – tested whether the chair was strong enough to support the weight of its supreme leader, which is over 130 kg.
Then the agent reappeared and cleared the chair to scan it with a small metal detector.
A fourth person, who appears to be Russian, watches closely, all the while standing on the shoulder of one of the North Korean officials.
It’s unclear why Kim’s security was so invested in inspecting the chair their leader would sit in, but chances are they were wary of deadly chemicals like Novichok and Polonium 210, which have previously been used by Putin’s spies to poison the enemies.
With all the possible scenarios in mind, it seems Kim left nothing to chance, despite the pair later confirming their friendship during the meeting.
