Feature phones are making an unusual comeback in the United States.

Not at all sophisticated and mainly only for making calls or sending SMS, these mobile phones left the market with the advent of smartphones, but apparently this will be their “revenge”.

As analysts discover, the US market is being kept alive by those who are called millennials (born between 1981-1996) and Generation Z (1990-2010) to be “detoxified” by applications and social networks.

This trend is also evident on TikTok, where hashtags like #bringbackfliphones gather millions of views.

In the United States, according to Counterpoint Research, sales of these phones will reach 2.8 million this year. They currently account for around 2% of overall mobile phone sales in the domestic market.

Reason:

In addition to the desire for a digital detox among young people, the demand for cheap disposable phones from certain categories of consumers is the main factor, such as tourists who buy a second phone for short periods or companies that want to reduce costs.

The price of these devices ranges from $20 to $100. Let’s not forget the developing countries, where the internet connection is slow.
