Regardless of whether you are a Game of Thrones fan, Dubrovnik is a favorite tourist destination. But if you’re heading to this tourist-friendly town in Croatia this summer, think about the luggage you’ll be carrying.

Thanks to new rules, visitors to Dubrovnik’s Old Town are banned from dragging wheeled suitcases along its streets, meaning you’ll have no choice but to carry your own bags.

This decision was proposed by the mayor, Mato Frankovic, who said it was an attempt to curb noise pollution, as the local population was tired of being woken up at night by the sound of travelers banging their suitcases on the cobblestone streets. And those caught dragging their suitcases on wheels could face a hefty fine of €265.

In fact, according to the mayor, these rules are “just the beginning”. From November, the local government hopes to solve the problem of suitcases in Dubrovnik with a concerted effort, introducing a system according to which bags will be deposited outside the city and transported to the accommodation by courier.
