Tax to enter Britain, Europeans already have to pay
European citizens will have to fill out a form and pay a sum of money to visit or spend even a single day in the UK.
The British government announced another measure that comes after the Brexit process, i.e. Britain’s exit from the European Union.This procedure is reminiscent of the American “Esta” documentation that tourists and other foreign travelers need to enter the United States.
London will follow the same example. The mandatory documentation for the UK border will be called the ETA.
Like the US ESTA, the British ETA will be an electronic form that every traveler will need to fill out before travelling, providing biometric data and answering a few questions.
As with the United States, EU citizens will have to pay an “amount of money which has not yet been disclosed by the British government and will be valid for two years”.
The new regime, which obviously does not apply to Europeans legally resident in the UK, will come into effect for tourists and travelers from around the world in 2024.
