Serious moments of tension were recorded on Tuesday evening in Moldova, when supporters of the pro-Russian Sor party tried to enter the government headquarters in Chisinau.
Thousands of protesters had come to the main square of the capital and demanded the resignation of the government, the president, Maia Sandu, and early elections.
According to the Moldovan media, the tensions came from a part of the demonstrators who separated from the crowd and tried to enter the government headquarters, but encountered police resistance.
The demonstrators then turned to the town hall, while many of them were arrested.
Hungary’s airline, Wizz Air, will avoid the airport in the Moldovan capital, Chisinau, from March 14 for security reasons, the Civil Aviation Authority of Moldova has said.
This authority has said that it has been informed by the airline and that it regrets making such a decision.
The announcement also stated that the Republic of Moldova is doing everything to guarantee the safety of its airspace.
There are concerns that Russia’s war in Ukraine could spill over into neighboring Moldova.
Russian soldiers are stationed in the breakaway region of Transnistria.Last week, Russia claimed that Ukraine wanted to attack this small contingent of military troops.
With Chisinau no longer a destination for flights, Wizz Air intends to offer more flights from the Romanian city of Iasi, located near the border, several media reports said.
Wizz Air operates flights to several cities in central and southeastern Europe.
With all air traffic in Ukraine suspended due to the war, the airport in Chisinau is one of the closest destinations for Ukrainians.
